I learned my craft in a traditional way and have a very free style experimental approach to making work. There is
no plan other than to create something that develops over time in an abstract painterly fashion through layering of multiple print processes to create colour, depth and pattern. The techniques used acoss this collection are screen printing, mono printing, devoré, discharge, heat transfer, block printing, pigment, bonding, stitching and hand painting
Digital technology has delivered a tool I can use as an extention of my traditional making skills. It allows me to make work that would not be possible in any other way but that has it's roots in the traditional practice of painting. New work always starts with a painting that I then digitise and extract into multiple layers of colour pattern and texture. I can then re-work and re-assemble them in any number of ways to create a finished piece. The final work is then digitally printed onto linen, stretched and framed.
